Respect for traditional Szekler folk costume, folk dance, folk music, and prayer in the Hungarian language is an important mission of the Szekler community—one we must work for every day.
The Day of a Thousand Szekler Girls is a special opportunity to live this together in community. This uplifting cultural heritage event brings unforgettable experiences through shared singing, prayer, and dance in traditional dress.
Everyone is warmly invited, and participants are encouraged to wear folk costume.
Program highlights:
- 09:00 Gathering – Liberty Square
- 09:15 Opening, greetings, folk dance performances, group dancing
- 09:45 Parade to the Franciscan Church of Șumuleu Ciuc
- 11:00–12:00 Holy Mass
- 12:00 Parade to the hill (Nyereg)
- Afternoon: folk dance performances, community games, joint dance, photo session, crafts fair, exhibitions, workshops
- 17:00 Closing activities and performances
Organized by the Hargita Szekler Folk Dance Theatre, with local cultural institutions and partners.
