The solfatara mofettas from Harghita Băi was discovered in the 9th century. Solfatara is a volcanic emanation with sulphurous and other gases.
The two mofettas are special because of the gases and carbonated water of which they are composed. They also have a different chemical composition which serve for the treatment of various diseases. The Solfatara of Harghita Bai are baths in sulfur gases. Chemical composition:
