The Manhattan Project

On July 16, 1945, at 5:28 a.m. in the New Mexico desert, the first atomic bomb was detonated during the Manhattan Project. As the countdown reached zero, Robert Oppenheimer and the team witnessed a moment that changed the world forever—marked by awe, silence, and emotional shock. Oppenheimer later recalled a line from the Bhagavad Gita: “Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.”
