About

Founded in 2001, the Csik Chamber Orchestra is now one of the leading orchestras of the country.

In July 2001, a chamber orchestra, founded by university students from the most prominent Universities of the country played its first concert in Miercurea-Ciuc, under the leadership of renowned pianist, conductor, and pedagogue, Zoltán Szőnyi.

The concert was such a great success that soon it became a regular performer not only as part of citywide events but it created its own concert schedule and named itself “Csik Chamber Orchestra”.

Since 2002, the orchestra has also met foreign invitations. Their recordings have been broadcasted several times on the MR1 Bartók Radio in Budapest and Radio Târgu-Mureş.

Thanks to the financial support of different grants and organizations, the orchestra appear offen as a full symphonic orchestra, still keeping its name as Csik Chamber Orchestra, as a tribute to its origins.

In the autumn of 2006 they invited to Budapest to the Music Academy of Liszt. Duna Television has made a documentary about the ensemble, which was released in the same year, entitled “The Music of Ciuc and Salzburg” – The concert of the Csik Chamber Orchestra at the Music Academy (Liszt Ferenc Music Academy, Budapest, Hungary).

Since 2008, the orchestra performs more than 6 concerts a year, and supports, organizes and oversees many other classical music events in the area. One of them is the Early Music Festival from Miercurea Ciuc, which is now internationally renowned and in 2019 celebrated its 39th-year anniversary; the series of Autumn Piano Evenings, launched in 2017; BonBon Matiné lecture concert series dedicated for the youth and many more.

About Via Transilvanica Via Transilvanica, the "road that unites", is a 1,400 kilometer long distance trail, a tourist route that crosses Romania diagonally from Putna to Drobeta Turnu Severin. It's designed for hiking, cycling and horse riding. Via Transilvanica is marked with painted markers, signposts and at every kilometer, there is an individually carved andesite stone, therefore all these milestones can probably become the longest art gallery in the world, which accompanies travelers along the way. The trail crosses ten counties (administrative units of the country): Suceava, Bistrița-Năsăud, Mureș, Harghita, Sibiu, Brașov, Alba, Hunedoara, Caraș-Severin and Mehedinți and is divided into seven cultural-historical regions: Bucovina, Highlands, Terra Siculorum, Terra Saxonum, Terra Dacica, Terra Banatica, Terra Romana. In total, Via Transilvanica crosses 107 administrative-territorial units in Romania, and highlights the natural and cultural heritage of each region. Via Transilvanica is a long-distance trail inspired by the history of other such trails in Europe, North America and beyond. But above all, it is a social project, so the focus is on the community. The project aims to bring to light places in the country, seemingly forgotten by the world and largely depopulated due to economic limitations, and bring them to life. This revival is due to the backpackers who, after a long day on the trails, expect a minimum of hospitality and at least one welcoming face to share stories with. This is what the road that unites is all about.

Supporting highly talented young people is a vital public interest that determines the competitiveness of a community. Mathias Corvinus Collegium (MCC) offers free, useful trainings that complement school studies, unique talent management for enthusiastic young people in 9 training centers across Transylvania: Arad (Arad), Csíkszereda (Miercurea Ciuc), Kolozsvár (Cluj-Napoca), Marosvásárhely (Târgu Mureș), Nagyvárad (Oradea), Sepsiszentgyörgy (Sfântu Gheorghe), Székelyudvarhely (Odorheiu Secuiesc), Szatmárnémeti (Satu Mare) and Veresszék. MCC's activities in Transylvania bring together more than 2000 students in 8 locations and 4 educational programs. In the academic year 2023/2024, the Young Talent Program had 545 students, the High School Program had 1406 members, the University Program had 114 students and 19 young people studied in the Transylvanian School of Politics. The organisation started its activity in 1996 with only a few students, but from the 2000s onwards the training possibilities gradually expanded and it has been present in several places outside Hungary, in the Carpathian Basin. Today it offers training opportunities for all ages: primary school, secondary school, university and beyond. The Transylvanian High School Program was launched in 2013 in Cluj-Napoca and Odorheiu Secuiesc, the Kolozsvár/ Cluj University Program started in 2018, and the Primary School Program in 2020, teaching financial awareness, health and conflict management and other skills from the fifth grade onwards. The organisation's Transylvanian administrative centre is in Kolozsvár (Cluj-Napoca), the hometown of King Matthias. The Collegium supports all young people, regardless of their financial, social and cultural background, who are curious about the world, want to be educated and informed, and in the long run want to become useful members of society in their local communities, among Hungarians in Transylvania and in the wider Carpathian Basin. The MCC supports young people who want to useful in their local communities, who feel responsibility for their environment, so that they can develop their talents and use them for the benefit of themselves and, in the long run, for the benefit of society. MCC is neither a competitor nor an alternative to public educational institutions, it is independent of them, but its courses help students to perform better in the traditional educational system. We believe in the importance of learning from the best teachers, so that young people can become open to the world, familiar with international processes, and at the same time represent values and attitudes that are forward-looking for the future of the Hungarian people of the Carpathian Basin and for the future of Europe as a whole.
